This number first met in Portadown in 1796, with John Lutton as Master, and it was still meeting in Portadown in 1797 with Alex Murphy as Master. John Lutton was again Master 1798-9, while Murphy followed him from 1800-1807. Their successors were 1808-9, John Woolsey; 1810-18, William Woolsey; 1819, Arthur Wright; 1820-21, William Wright; 1823-7, William Woolsey; 1828, Arthur Wright (who had been DM from 1819 until 1827.
No 18 was one of three lodges meeting in Drumnakelly in 1825 – the others being 19 and 20. James Newell (1824), Thomas Boyd (1826) and Matthew Evans had been successive secretaries, with William Wright (1824) and James Robinson treasurers.
Arthur Wright occupied the chair until 1833, the DM’s during his five years of office being Alex McKee, John May, Thomas McKee, and William Grimason. Thomas Thornton was secretary in 1830 and again in the intervening years Thomas Magowan, Thomas Summerville, and James Brownlee were treasurers.
In 1834 William Grimason became Master and occupied that position until 1839. In 1834 James Bennett was DM while in 1835 and 1836 William Watson and Joseph Saunderson filled the position. The latter was DM, until 1838, when he was succeeded by John Dollar. Arthur Wright was treasurer in 1834, and Thomas Summerville from that date until 1838. In 1837 John Grimason was secretary, and James Wright held the position 1838-39. James McKee was treasurer in the last two years.
In 1838 the lodge meeting place was moved to Mahon. In that year it had a membership of about a dozen very regular attenders, but at the monthy meeting in October, 1839 we find that the WM, DM, and secretary were the only persons present.
There are no records for 1840-41, but in 1842 the lodge is meeting in Robert Wright’s in Mahon, with Robert Wright as WM, Thomas Morrow as DM, Thomas Church as secretary, and John Beatty as treasurer; we learn that a ‘tea party will be held in Br Robert Wright’s. Mahon, on the first Friday of May, 1843.’ From 1844 to 1848 James Wright was WM with John Dollar DM from 1844 until 1847. Thomas Brown and William Clayton were secretaries, while John Forrest and Francis Wright were treasurers.
The last named was WM from 1849 until 1858, with John Forrest, DM, from 1848 until 1856. Jarvis Cook was secretary from 1849 until 1858, and Ben Reid, Robin Wright, Thomas Finlay and Robert Wright were treasurers (the latter from 1853 until 1859). In the latter year Jarvis Cook had become WM; William John Dickson, DM; and Thomas Church, secretary.
The lodge at that time known as Mahon Lodge, had dropped in attendance from an average of 12 in August 1858, to four in July, 1859. In 1860 we find the following document ‘We the undersigned do hereby agree to establish Orange Lodge No 18 in Br James Wright’s of Portadown to consist of true Orangemen, this 11th day of June, 1860 – Daniel Bulla, James Wright, William Hutton, William Hoy, Samuel Boals; and we do hereby appoint Daniel Bulla as Master of the said lodge pro tem and James Wright as secretary pro tem and that all members of said lodge be summoned forthwith.’
In the first half of 1860 the officers were Robert Wright, WM; Thomas Morrow, DM; Thomas Church, secretary; and John Beatty treasurer. At the May meeting of that year there were only six members- Robert Wright, Thomas Morrow, John Beatty, Isaac Willis, James and Francis Wright – present. Despite the document given above, we find that at the August meeting of 1860 the Number had a very different membership. There were several present, the officers being – Henry Hodgen, WM; Richard Topley, DM; Henry Cummins, secretary; and William Neill treasurer. It was now meeting in the house of James McKeown, Brackagh and in 1862 its officers were – Richard Acheson Topley, WM; John Hodgen, DM; and the same secretary and treasurer as in August 1860.
R A Topley occupied the chair until 1878. The DM’s during that period included John Barriskill, Thomas Baillie, Arnold Hodgen, Joseph Hodgen, Alex Doak, Robert James Clayton, and William Annette, William Cochrane, John Milligan, John Rogers, Hector T Rogers and William Hughs were secretaries. The treasurers included Thomas W Foster, William Annett and John Toal.

John Maginnis was secretary in 1893, and William J McIntyre 1894 to 1905. During that time the assistant secretaries included – John Hodgen, W J Overend, Thomas Fowler, George Cave, and Joseph Hodgen.
In 1903 George E Toal succeeded William Hodgen as Master and held the post until 1919. George Toal, junior, who succeeded him as treasurer, occupied that position until 1918, William J Hodgen was secretary from 1914 until 1920, in which year John Turkington was treasurer.
No 18 erected a new hall in 1914, and in 1923 Mr and Mrs E Maginnnis provided an organ for the hall in which religious services are held time to time. A new banner was obtained in 1923.
In 1920 John Toal senior, became WM; and occupied the positon until 1933, when he was succeeded by John McIntyre, John Turkington was DM until 1924, when he was succeeded by Joseph L Dermott.
