Concern over attack on Orange
Hall
The DUP has raised concerns about an attack on an Orange
Hall in Tyrone, amid the build-up to the county's appearance
in the all-Ireland GAA final this weekend.
Fermanagh and South Tyrone MLA Maurice Morrow the incident
at Aughintober Orange Hall late on Tuesday night or early
Wednesday morning.
He said: "I find this attack deplorable and disgraceful.
"The exterior of the hall has been defaced with
red and white paint and remarks have been written on the
walls concerning the Tyrone GAA team winning the Sam Maguire
trophy.
"This obviously has sectarian motives and I would
challenge the public representatives from Tvrone GAA to
condemn this attack and disassociate themselves from such
behaviour."
In recent years Dungannon and South Tyrone Borough Council
have funded the GAA in the area.
"Were the GAA to hesitate in the condemnation of
this attack, one would have to urge the council to proceed
with greater caution when future applications are made
for funding," said the MLA.
"This particular attack seems to be part of an orchestrated
and continuous campaign against Orange Halls located in
the Tyrone countryside." News Letter 22nd September
