Attack on Hall 'provocative' republican 'Hate Crime'
An attack on an Orange Hall in Rasharkin has been slammed as an attempt to raise tensions in the village ahead of Friday night's annual loyalist band parade.
North Antrim DUP MLA Mervyn Storey hit out at the vandals who daubed the premises with sectarian graffiti on Monday night.
"I am absolutely appalled that republicans in the North Antrim area have once again engaged in a sectarian attack upon an Orange Hall," he said.
"Republicans have deliberately and maliciously targeted Rasharkin Orange Hall just days before a band parade.
"This is a clear attempt to heighten tensions and suppress expression of the Protestant culture."
Ballymoney mayor John Finlay said the vandals were trying to "goad bandsmen into retaliating". 
"I have no doubt that this wanton act of sectarian vandalism was done in a bid to up the ante and create an atmosphere of intimidation on the eve of the parade," said the DUP councillor.
In July, a similar attack occurred when Lavin Orange Hall on the Ballycastle line was destroyed in a blaze just hours before a controversial Twelfth Day wreath-laying service by Orangemen in the predominantly nationalist village of Dunloy .
More than 1,200 people and 40 bands are due to take part in the Rasharkin parade, which was passed unrestricted by the Parades Commission.
