Arch is damaged by vandals

An Orange ceremonial arch in Newtownabbey has been targeted by vandals in a spate of weekend criminal damage in the area.

Police, who are appealing for anyone with information about the attacks, said that a number of other properties in the area were also damaged, and graffiti was sprayed over Barren Community Hall on the Antrim Road.

Right - Painted on the Orange Hall are the letter "K. A. H." which stands for 'Kill all Huns' - huns is the word bigoted republicans use for 'Protestants'. Also painted on the hall is CIRA - Continuity IRA. Racism comes in many forms and this is certainly one form Protestants know only too well.

The damage is believed to have been caused overnight on Friday.

Condemning the attack, local DUP Councillor William DeCourcy said that it was somewhat contradictory that both an Orange arch and a community centre that is involved in cross community work should be targeted.
