Five Orange Halls Attacked

Five Orange Halls have been attacked in County Armagh.

The attacks in Tassagh, Aghavilly, Tannagh Hill, Ballyrea and Crosskeys were reported to police early on Friday.

Ulster Unionist Party Deputy Leader Danny Kennedy has strongly condemned the attacks.

He said: “I have spoken to the local lodge officials regarding the incident and to the police who are now investigating the attacks. This sort of sectarian behaviour must be utterly condemned and those responsible have no place in Northern Ireland society.”

Mr Kennedy explained that graffiti and political slogans had been daubed on the outside of each of the halls.

He continued:“To me these look like sustained and coordinated sectarian attacks. Disturbingly some of the messages were also extremely sinister with -‘We haven’t gone away you know’ appearing on a number of the halls.”

“As we reflect on the 10th anniversary of the Omagh bombing, people within the community are aware of the sensitivities which such incidents cause. I would therefore urge anyone within the wider community to come forward to police if they have any information in connection with these blatant and gratuitous attacks.
